Film Captioning
Select feature film screenings will have open captions for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, have auditory processing issues, or otherwise may benefit from captions. Full list of captioned features coming soon!
The ByTowne Cinema offers Dolby Accessibility Solution (DAS) devices with amplified sound for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Arrive early and speak to venue staff to assist you!
The Animation Exposé Talks will have live captioning for those who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, have auditory processing issues, or otherwise may benefit from captions during the panel discussion.
“Open captions” are captions that are always on as part of the screening, cannot be turned off and do not need to be individually requested.
“Live captions” are captions that are captured and shared in real-time during a live event, often for content and discussions that are not scripted.
Select feature film screenings (listed below) will have open captions for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, have auditory processing issues, or otherwise may benefit from captions.

Masking Policy
It is highly encouraged for attendees to wear a mask in public spaces, however it is not required to attend OIAF screenings or events.
OIAF will have masks available for attendees upon request at the OIAF Office in Arts Court (Floor 2 to the right of Elevator 1) as well as at Registration in Arts Court (Floor 3 in the Arts Court Studio). There will also be hand sanitizer available for public use at all venues.
Scent Policy
It is highly encouraged for attendees to avoid wearing strong-smelling products including perfumes, colognes, and other scented products, however OIAF cannot guarantee a scent-free environment.
Disability Access
Passholders unable to wait in a conventional line for long periods due to a developmental disorder, chronic pain, or other disability can request a Disability Access Badge at OIAF Registration. The Disability Access Badge will be added to your pass by a Registration volunteer when requested.
Disability Access Badges must be shown to the pass/ticket scanning volunteers at each event/screening entry. The Badge allows the passholder and one other attendee accompanying them to enter the event/screening as soon as the doors open. Disability Access Badges are valid for entry to any and all events that have a line-up, including:
- All OIAF 2024 film screenings
- The Animation Conference (TAC) at the National Arts Centre (NAC)
- Opening Night Party at Lowertown Brewery
- Salon des Refusés at Club SAW
- The Animators’ Picnic at Strathcona Park
- Friday Night Party at Club SAW
- Animation Exposé (Artist Talks, Book & Art Signings) at the National Arts Centre (NAC)
- OIAF @ Pique in the Arts Court Studio
- Closing Night Party in the Arts Court Studio
Individual ticket holders unable to wait in a conventional line for long periods due to a developmental disorder, chronic pain, or other disability can advise the venue manager at the screening location and we will accommodate.
If you have any questions or require any additional information regarding the Disability Access Badge, you can email us at info@animationfestival.ca or fill out our anonymous form to provide feedback.
Support Persons
Attendees with a disability may be accompanied by one support person free of charge to all events and screenings at the OIAF so long as the attendee has a ticket or pass. Email us at info@animationfestival.ca to request a supplementary ticket/pass for a support person.
Service Animals
OIAF welcomes service animals in all areas of screening and event venues that are open to the public.
