Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) – 10 Daly Ave.
A day for families at the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF)!
The OIAF is partnering with Shaw Rocket Fund to present the Family Day program as a way for young animation fans and their families to get a taste of a real animation festival. Tickets are free for kids 12 and under! The day begins with the Animation for Young Audiences competition screenings which feature a collection of kid-friendly animated short films that the whole family can enjoy. Be sure to explore the rest of the building as there will be hands-on workshops for kids keen to learn more and try their creative skills with animation in the adjacent DARC Workshop and LabO, as well as activities throughout the OAG including the Discovery Card gallery search game and OAG Art Tent in the KPMG Courtyard.

Screenings:
9:30 AM to 10:35 AM: Animation for Young Audiences 3+ competition screening
11:00 AM to 12:20 PM: Animation for Young Audiences 7+ competition screening
1:00 PM to 2:30 PM: Feature Screening, Perlimps (dir. Alê Abreu, Brazil)
Free for Children 12 and under! Free for OIAF Passholders: AnimaPass, Weekend Pass, Saturday Pass

Free Family Day Workshops:

STOP IN AND MAKE AN ANIMATION! OAG Studio (Ground Floor)
Make a short animation with Tina Le Moine from MASC (Multicultural Arts for Schools and Communities) using cut-outs, props, and everyday objects. Combined with stop-motion animation techniques, you can make an animation and recreate the process at home.
GO DIGITAL IN THE ANIMATION LOUNGE DARC Workshop Room (Floor 1)
Sonya Carey from the Animation Lounge, supported by Switch Animation, is giving demonstrations about how to get started with animation software. Pop in and try out some computer animation techniques.
GET CREATIVE IN THE ANIMATION ART ROOM LabO Room 1202 (Floor 1)
Artist and Teacher Alex Fichera will teach beginners and experienced artists to build a flipbook and how to start drawing for animation.
Did you catch the Luce and The Rock screening by Britt Raes during the Young Audiences competition? Check out complimentary crafts related to that film such as paper-folding and rock character painting.
All workshops will have demonstrations at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, & 2 PM and participants can drop in anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. However, if you’d like to pre-register for a workshop to ensure a spot is saved for you please do so by clicking the button below:

The OAG Art Tent provides a fun, friendly and bilingual space for adults and kids of all ages to explore their creativity. This is a free all-ages activity. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
