Feature Film Competition Selection
I’ll Just Live in Bando is the story of a downtrodden father who is unable to find a stable job in “Hell Chosun” (a phrase combining the concept of hell and “Chosun,” the name for Korea in feudal times). Jun-Koo finds himself middle-aged, unemployed, and desperate when he miraculously receives two job offers: one is to become a professor; the other, to have a role in a local soap opera. It’s clear that Jun-Koo has a decision to make, but what that decision will be is uncertain, as he must weigh his own dreams with the need to provide a stable income for his family.

I’ll Just Live in Bando deals squarely with the biggest problem facing contemporary Korea (and elsewhere) – to follow one’s dreams, or find stable employment in a viciously competitive job market. Director Lee Songyun expertly weaves social satire with a clever and expressive animated exploration of what to do when you find yourself at a crossroads in life.
