Animate Ottawa

Animate Ottawa!  A FREE in class presentation for High School students

The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is offering a free 3-hour presentation for high school students to learn about animation and create their own short animation project about what they love about Ottawa. In collaboration with Multicultural Arts for Schools and Communities (MASC), this free presentation is available to high schools (groups of 30 students or less) in Ottawa starting May 16th until the end of the school year.

The 3-hour presentation includes a screening and a workshop.

The 40min screening program, curated by the OIAF, includes Canadian animated short films that demonstrate how you can express yourself using animation.  Many of these films use simple methods such as cut-outs and found objects, which is the method the students will use to animate in their workshop.

The ‘Animation on the Light Table’ workshop will be led by MASC instructor Tina Le Moine. Using natural materials such as sand and adding cut-out characters, students will manipulate objects on a light table and film them, resulting in a beautiful silhouette animation about what they like about Ottawa. At the end of the workshop, the students will have a finished animated short film of which to be proud.
