Student Marketing and Design Assistant (Bilingual)

Job Summary: The Ottawa International Animation Festival is seeking a bilingual student as the organization’s Marketing Assistant.

The OIAF is one of the world’s oldest and most recognized animation events, attracting over 27,000 attendees over five days every fall. The Festival hosts competition and curated screenings, fan and professional development talks. It attracts top filmmakers and vip guests from around the world.

This is an excellent opportunity for a bilingual Graphic Design or Animation student to take a key role in the administration and success of an arts festival, providing them with a foundation for relationships within the independent, cultural and professional animation sectors.


Reporting Relationship: Reporting to the Managing Director and the Artistic Director

START DATE: May 12th, 2014
END DATE: August 29th, 2014


Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Organized and able to consistently meet deadlines
  • Proficient with design software; knowledge of Adobe Design Software required
 
Responsibilities:
  • Will do layout on the various Festival publications
  • Working from templates, will layout ads
  • Resizing pictures and artwork for the web
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are a MUST
  • Other office and logistical tasks


Eligibility Criteria:
Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
Must be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;
Do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
Do not receive employment insurance benefits (E.I.) while employed with YCW;;
Did not previously participate or receive a salary in the framework of this internship program or another Career Focus program funded under the government of Canada's youth employment strategy.;
The student must travel 125 km or more from his/her residence to the place of work. 

Salary: $12/hour and a ton of great experience!

Through the Job Creation Program:

Job Summary: Join our team and get some great experience helping to organize a major international film event.  Various postitions available.

Duration: 26 weeks

START DATE:  Spring 2014
END DATE:  October 2014

 

Skills and Abilities:
  •  Excellent communication and people skills
  • Other languages an asset.
  • Good organizational skills / able to work in a busy environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are a MUST
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office, database and Internet programs
  • Experience working with Audio/visual equipment (DVD, video, BETA, projectors) is useful

Eligibility Criteria:
You must currently be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) payments or have received EI payments within the last 3 years (Reach back status);
Live in the Ottawa area;
You must not leave employment to participate in JCP;
You must not be a current full-time student;
You must have your Employment Insurance status verified;
You may only participate in the JCP once in a 2 year period. (Applicants that do not clearly indicate their ability to meet these criteria in the cover letter will not be considered.)

Salary: You will be paid the maximum EI earnings ($423) per week.
