TAC Keynote Announced  (Posted May 9th, 2012)

We are pleased to announce Butch Hartman as one of this year’s keynote speaker for the 2012 Conference. The American-born Hartman is an accomplished animator, producer, director and voice actor. He is best known as the creator and executive producer of three successful animated series featured on Nickelodeon. In 1998, Hartman developed The Fairly OddParents, which tells the story of Timmy Turner, a boy who is granted fairy godparents. The show immediately drew huge ratings for Nickelodeon. In 2004, OddParents was followed up with Danny Phantom, the adventures of a 14 year-old boy “going ghost.” 2011 saw the debut of a new series, T.U.F.F. Puppy, all about the life of a secret agent dog, Dudley Puppy. “This year we’re focusing on what really matters: creativity and innovation,” says TAC director, Azarin Sohrabkhani. “ Butch Hartman’s career embodies this celebration perfectly and we’re thrilled to be bringing him to Ottawa.”

Oh boy, it's all starting! Programming announcements for the upcoming 2012 Festival have begun to roll off the presses and for those looking to us for lifted spirits, this year's OIAF promises to not disappoint.

We’ll pay tribute to the work of animation legend Ralph Bakshi, who redefined the art form with controversial subject matter, ignited the imagination of future animators and became a hero to generations of fans and filmmakers.

The spotlight will also be on the fantastic work done by UK artists including Barry Purves, literally the world's greatest puppet animator, and on the Unconventional Ad Men, Smith & Foulkes.

YouTubular: Animation in the Age of the Meme takes a look at how YouTube changed everything in the animation world. The way we create, watch and share in the age of the online meme has had a profound impact on the industry.

We’ll also take a look back at the historical relationship between comedians and animators starting with early pioneers like the Marx Brothers and Jack Benny right up to contemporaries such as Lewis Black and Louis C.K.. Plus, Remembering Karen Aqua, the great American indie animator.

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements as we gear up for 2012!
