| Maria Leite was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in the year of 1981 where she graduated in industrial design and worked at Giramundo Puppet Theatre. There she was trained to be a professional puppeteer in a global perspective. Her experience on video began by constructing and manipulating puppets for the Emmy nominee “Hoje é Dia de Maria” (Today is Maria’s Day) by Rede Globo - Brazil; the video “The Botanical Garden” at Giramundo; the television series “Dango Balango” (Rede Minas - Brazil) and the participation on the making of two of eight video-animations for Giramundo, showing the Millenium Development Goals for the “We Can” project, in a partnership with Canal Futura for UNESCO. The partnership with Daniel Herthel guided their researches on kinetic sculptures, associating their mechanical references, puppets knowledge and scenic experience to develop, produce and animate the video-project "Casa de Máquinas", supported by British Council and Arts Council England. |
