Book Signing: Unsung Heroes of Animation by Chris Robinson
Friday, September 23, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm (NAC Southam Hall Amphitheatre Lobby)

Unsung Heroes of Animation is a collection of profiles of over thirty international animators written by OIAF Artistic Director and noted animation writer and columnist (The Animation Pimp), Chris Robinson. “The pieces in this book,” writes Robinson, “are highly subjective and often personal. Many of these writings say more about my own concerns, fears and obsessions than they perhaps do about the subjects. However, as Nick Tosches' once wrote, "there has to be something about that character that I felt an empathy for and it was maybe a mystery in me that I tried to solve." In short, through these people and films, I have, I guess, been trying to find myself.” Copies of Unsung Heroes of Animation will be available for purchase throughout the festival at the Aniboutique.

Book Signing: Satiro-Plastic: The Sketchbook Of Gary Panter
Saturday, September 24, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Chapters on Rideau St.)

The latest sketchbook from OIAF 05 poster designer, Gary Panter. “Panter is famed in underground comics circles for his voluminous sketchbooks. This facsimile of a 1999–2001 sketchbook is a departure from his usual stream-of-consciousness psychedelia. As he writes in his introduction, this workwas more of a travel companion than a playground—it chronicles his trips to Texas; Oaxaca, Mexico; and a variety of Brooklyn neighborhoods as well as his views of the World Trade Center towers as they collapsed. Panter did not fill the book chronologically, but instead drew on whatever blank page he found, and the result is uniquely immersive.” – Publishers Weekly

“As the graphic designer of television's Pee Wee's Playhouse and creator of the underground comic strip Jimbo, Gary Panter combines whimsy and the sublime.” —Architecture
