Blair Peters Partner & Executive Producer, Studio B Productions
The Great Debate: Business and Cartoons

Blair left his home of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to pursue Classical Animation at Sheridan College, graduating in 1985. He immediately went to work as a background designer / layout artist for Crawley Films in Ottawa. Fleeing the harsh Ontario winter, he moved to Canada’s West Coast in 1986 as a freelancer. Here he met Chris Bartleman, and in 1988, the two formed Studio B and began working on a wide array of projects, from commercials to shorts for Sesame Street and Canada’s CBC network, to layout work on series such as Beetlejuice and Eek! the Cat for Nelvana. Blair and partner Chris developed a solid client base doing service work for such companies as Disney Television Animation (The Mighty Ducks, Timon and Pumbaa, Jungle Cubs) and Warner Brothers (Calamity Jane). For the next few years, Blair took over development of the Studio’s proprietary titles. He created D’Myna Leagues, airing on CTV, co-created What About Mimi? (airing on Teletoon) and developed Yvon of the Yukon for YTV. Next up was the role of creative producer on Yakkity Yak (airing on Teletoon and Nicktoons), a co-production with Kapow Pictures from Australia, and Something Else (airing on Family Channel), a co-production with UK TV Loonland. Currently Blair is overseeing the series Being Ian for YTV as well as various development projects with partner Chris Bartleman who is overseeing Class of the Titans for Teletoon. Giving back to the community is something Chris, Blair and the rest of the Studio B team take very seriously. Blair takes an active role in the Arts Umbrella Program in Vancouver as well as working with TELETOON and Capilano & Sheridan Colleges to work with student at all levels to inspire and encourage them in their pursuit of animation. Blair has been named as one of Vancouver’s “Top 40 Under 40 Entrepreneurs” by Business in Vancouver Magazine. He lives with his own focus group (three girls age 3, 6 and 8), his wife, Lisa, and his yellow lab Otis (a fixture under the Studio B boardroom table).
