Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions coming our way:
1. Do I have to be currently enrolled in an Animation Programme in order to submit my film?
The short answer is NO. If you are a recent graduate of an animation programme or have completed a first film after July 31st, 1994, you are still eligible for competition. Only unfinished works must come from students currently enrolled in an animation programme.
2. If I submitted a first film in the 1996 Ottawa International Animation Festival, can I submit the same film for SAFO 97?
Yes. Provided that your film did not appear in an edition of the OIAF previous to 1996.
3. Is there an entry fee?
No. Although students submitting films are responsible for all costs for shipping the film to us and for the return of the film if requested.
4. Do I need to fill out an entry form?
Yes! The entry forms allow us to process the your entries quicker. It also makes it easier for us to collect the information necessary on the SAFO competition finalists for the Festival Programme Book. Each entry must have an entry form. If you only have one form for multiple entries, photocopy the entry form as necessary or download a form off of our web site at http://www.awn.com/safo.
5. Can I send my entry on a video cassette?
Yes. We will accept video entries in NTSC and PAL formats for VHS (1/2 inch) cassettes.
6. Is there a maximum length my film has to be?
Yes. Completed films must be under 30 minutes long.
7. How will I find out if my film gets accepted for competition?
Films will be selected for competition in July. Everyone that submitted a film for competition will be notified before August 15th, 1997 as to whether they are in or out of competition. Answers will be mailed or faxed. Don't call us, we'll call you!!!
